Shopfront Redesign

UI Design for Digital Magazine Storefronts

The Challenge

Immediate Media’s digital storefronts for magazine brands were becoming visually inconsistent and difficult to navigate. Key UI elements such as pricing, issue previews, and call-to-action buttons lacked clarity and alignment across platforms. This made it harder for users to browse and purchase digital editions smoothly. The existing design also did not scale well across devices, with mobile layouts often feeling cluttered or unstructured.

The Approach

My goal was to improve the visual hierarchy and create a more cohesive experience across multiple magazine storefronts. I started by reviewing existing layouts to identify problem areas and design inconsistencies. From there, I redesigned key UI components such as product cards, promotional banners, and navigation elements to ensure they were clean, accessible, and easy to interact with. I collaborated with in-house developers to ensure the updated designs were responsive and could be implemented efficiently across different brands. I also created reusable templates and visual assets to speed up future storefront updates and maintain design consistency.

The Outcome

The redesigned storefronts offered a clearer and more streamlined shopping experience for users. Magazine covers and pricing information were easier to scan, and the overall navigation became more intuitive across desktop and mobile devices. Internally, the introduction of reusable templates and components helped cut down design and production time for similar projects. Stakeholder feedback was positive, highlighting the improved visual clarity and stronger alignment with each magazine’s brand identity.

What I Learned

This project highlighted the importance of flexible design systems when working across multiple brands and content types. It taught me how to simplify layouts while still maintaining a strong editorial presence. The collaboration with developers also helped ensure the designs could scale and adapt easily across different platforms and publication needs.
