Picking & Packing Redesign
UI Design for Internal Fulfilment Tools
The Challenge
Huboo’s internal picking and packing system worked, but it wasn’t easy to use. The interface was inconsistent, and new warehouse staff often found it confusing. This slowed down pick times and led to occasional errors. The goal was to simplify the design so tasks could be completed faster and with fewer mistakes.
My Role
I was the UI designer on the product team. My job was to bring clarity and consistency to the interface, making it easier for staff to navigate. I worked closely with product managers and developers, translating requirements and feedback into designs that solved real workflow problems.
The Approach
I started by reviewing the existing tool and noting where it felt visually messy or overly complicated. From there, I designed new UI components that could be reused across the platform, helping to create a more consistent look and feel. I also put together a visual style guide covering type, colour, and UI patterns, which made it easier for developers to implement designs consistently. Prototypes were shared and tested internally, which gave us quick feedback and allowed me to refine the designs before handoff.
The Outcome
The redesigned interface gave warehouse staff a cleaner, more structured tool for their daily tasks. Picking and packing became clearer, particularly for new team members. Internally, the shared design system sped up development and reduced the number of support queries. While we didn’t track formal metrics, feedback from teams was very positive and the new interface felt more intuitive and much easier to use.
What I Learned
This project reinforced my strengths in UI design and showed me how much impact clear interfaces can have on real-world workflows. I also learned how to balance design goals with technical constraints, and how to push for consistency while staying flexible with the needs of developers and product managers.
